This includes lunch and 25 litres of juice to take home with you.
You will need
1. Suitable clothing: As we will be collecting apples in the orchard please bring waterproof footwear, work/gardening gloves and suitable clothing.
2. A clean 25 litre container for the juice.
(We can supply them at £9 each but you need to order in advance.)
On the day
We normally start at 10 o’clock and aim to finish by 3.30 pm.
We begin the day with a brief introduction to the cidermaking process.
We then go into the orchard to collect apples where we will talk about the different varieties of cider apple and perry pear.
We will then scrat the apples to produce a pomace ready for pressing.
During lunch we will taste some of our cider and perry and discover the characteristics of the product from each variety.
We will then press the pomace and collect the juice.
We will take measurements of the acidity and sugar content and you will be given guidance on preparing the juice for fermentation.
You will then be able to take away 25 litres of juice to make your own cider at home. If you want to take additional juice the cost will be 50p a litre.
